We are two DePaul University alumni from India who came to the US in 2022. Like many of you, we used Sprintax in 2023 and found it expensive. So, for the next tax year, we filed by hand and helped our friends do the same.
We thought, "Maybe we can automate this?" So last year, we built a free MVP supporting Federal and Illinois returns. The feedback was amazing, so we decided to double down.
We recreated F1TaxReturn from scratch with better technology to be faster and more secure. We expanded support to CA, NY, and IL - where the majority of Indian students are - and added support for more income types.
We are successful engineers at Fortune 100 companies building this on weekends and nights because we genuinely want to help students.
