How long does a paper Massachusetts refund take?
Massachusetts law gives DOR 90 days after the due date, or after you file if that is later, before it owes you interest on your refund.
The Massachusetts Department of Revenue does not say how soon a paper return first shows in Where's My Refund?
How do I check my Massachusetts refund status?
Use Where's My Refund? on mtc.dor.state.ma.us. On MassTaxConnect, choose "Where's My Refund?" under Individuals. No login is needed.
It asks for these, in this order:
- Tax Year. The year the return is for, not the year you mail it
- SSN or ITIN. Yours. You type it on the agency's own site
- Refund Amount. Whole dollars, from Form 1-NR/PY line 58 or Form 1 line 54 (2025 forms)
What else should I know about Massachusetts's Where's My Refund?
For an amended return, or an original return filed before December 1, 2022, log in to MassTaxConnect and send DOR a message, or call 617-887-6367.
Can F1TaxReturn track my Massachusetts refund?
If you file your Massachusetts return with F1TaxReturn, your dashboard has a refund tracker: every box Where's My Refund? asks for, filled in from your return except your SSN, with a copy button beside each, a timeline from the day you mail it, and an email when it is time to check.
F1TaxReturn prepares paper returns: you print, sign and mail them, and it never sees your refund status. Your federal return is free; the Massachusetts return is a paid add-on.
