What can slow down my North Carolina refund?

North Carolina's identity theft checks can mean more verification and a slower refund.

  • A paper return, or asking for a paper check, takes longer than e-filing with direct deposit.
  • If you use more than one form type, NCDOR returns your state return to you.

It shows the same information as NCDOR's phone staff. If your refund is held for review, they can say no more until at least 60 days after you filed.

  • Its refund line is 1-877-252-4052, open 24 hours a day.
  • NCDOR pays interest if the refund is not issued within 45 days of the due date, the day you filed or the day you overpaid, whichever is latest.
