What can slow down my Minnesota refund?

Minnesota names mailing a paper return, not choosing direct deposit, errors on your return and returns identified for additional review as things that slow a refund down.

  • If Minnesota receives a return it finds suspicious, it stops processing it and sends a letter. The letter says how to check whether you filed it and how to contact Revenue.
  • Direct deposit must go to an account not associated with a foreign bank. If the routing or account number is wrong or not accepted, Minnesota sends a paper check.
  • Minnesota deducts any amount you owe for Minnesota or federal debts, and may send a check if it adjusted your return or used part of your refund to pay a debt.
