What can slow down my Utah refund?

Utah cannot issue a refund before March 1 unless it has received both your return and your employer's required return.

  • A paper return is opened, sorted, examined and processed by hand, and the refund waits until it is posted to your account. Fixing even a simple mistake adds several more weeks.
  • If Utah sends you an Identity Protection Verification letter, you get no refund until you pass its online quiz or send the documents it asks for.
  • Utah cannot send money outside the United States, so a refund to a foreign account comes as a check.
  • Your refund may be applied to any federal or state debt you owe.

What else should I know about Utah's Where's my refund?

It shows only the current filing year's return. For an amended return it shows the most recent return you filed.

  • For security reasons, Taxpayer Access Point is not available in most countries outside the United States. Utah asks you to contact it at 801-297-2200 or taxmaster@utah.gov for more information.
